"Mansion of the Garcías"

Located in the Young corner that forms the street Héroes and Mariano Escobedo, this building of two plants was considered in the its most attractive and beautiful times one of of downtown. Originally it was constructed in the year of 1870 and served as parent office for the commercial warehouse of Ecuadorian origin German " Alzua & Dorn ".

In the year of 1883 he was acquired by the important company/signature of " Somellera Brothers " that occupies it until the year of 1907, date in which was closed due to the death of the owner the natural Spanish Don Jose Somellera. Soon after the building was bought to the heirs by Mr. Genaro García who in that time was President and partner of the Mining company of the Panuco and shareholder of the powerful financial institution Western Bank of Mexico, in addition to owner of extensive properties near the urban helmet and that at the moment are integral part of the city.

Mr. García was a man in the social circles, economic and political and he says that she was a person of much weather and perseverante; proof of it is the anecdote that account was had with the Gral. Venustiano Carranza, comment to us that at the time that he was President of the Miner of the Panuco, the facilities were taken part by the military and the production became paralyzed and of consequence the company was in favor on the verge of the bankruptcy; Desperate before the renuencia of the military to leave the mine, somebody I advise to him that it go to the city of Mexico to meet itself with the " Four Baron of Ciénegas ", after several attempts so that you would agendaran it, communicated to him that the Gral. Carranza would not receive it, but the Sr.García far from returning itself with the empty hands, knowledgeable that the Gral. Carranza was used to walking by the Park of very early Chapultepec all the mornings, went to this place and patiently I hope that it happened, leaving to him intempestivamente to the step, the bodyguards thought that she was an attacker and they put under it, when reviewing noticed it that only it came armed with the newspaper of the day

The Gral. Carranza when seeing all this requested that they took it presence to his and there Don Genaro I explain porqué to him had acted of that atrabancada form. The result of this adventure was that General Carranza orders the immediate retirement of the troops of the miner and who of this was born a friendship that lasted until the death of President Carranza.

Knowledge is had that during the many years that the mansion was into the hands of this family, several outer transformations were done to him and inner that were worth to him that it was considered him like one of the best houses of the city.

Their main entrance this on a corner and all its windows is finished off by a cornice in which several beautiful balconies with their forged iron handrails rest, all the superior part of the roof this ending by an imposing cornice of neoclassic type.

This he is one of the few buildings of the historical center, that despite the abandonment of its owners and to the deterioration normal that to undergone his facade because of the inclemency of the time, it even maintains a stoic fight to maintain presents/displays something of its grandiosidad.
